Stay away from these if you're playing version 1.01. The ion disruptor will damage your equipment permanently (unless you can repair it somewhere or with something).

The Tev 9s will do decent damage, and the ion disruptor will “ionize” your equipment. Ionization will make equipment act like it's damaged, but will wear off over time.
Other
In either version, shields, and/or +Ion or +deviceProtect armor, will protect from the effects.
